Keynote speaker Martin Laird presented three one-hour talks on the nature of contemplation at the 18th Annual Conference of Contemplative Outreach. Father Laird provides an overview of his book, Into the Silent Land, discussing interior silence and the challenges people often face as they attempt to practice contemplation. He then delves deeper into these struggles, including depression, anxiety, and panic. He shows how interior silence can help us "live through, pray through, and even see right through the emotions." Eventually, our contemplative practice deepens, and we learn to view our emotional turmoil in new ways.
