A Celtic Odyssey

A Celtic Odyssey was a fortuitous accident of time and people.

Pipe Major Ben Holmes introduced me to his piping friend Roy Durbin in the late '90s. Roy is a very creative man. He is also super-human. If Roy wants to do or try something, nothing stops him; he doesn't let anything hold him back. Thus, I eventually agreed when Roy asked me if he and I could do a Celtic music album, although I had not composed a lot of Celtic music.  A Celtic Odyssey is the album that resulted from that collaboration, and Roy and I called our creative duo Odyssey.

Another part of the fortuitous timing happened while making this recording; I was also composing an album for a songwriter named Steve Sanders. Steve wanted his niece, Gretchen, to sing on his album. One day Gretchen and I were recording a song called Angel's Lullaby, and Roy walked into the studio. When he heard Gretchen's voice, he immediately hired her to sing a Christmas album he wanted to make after we finished A Celtic Odyssey. Ironically, Steve Sanders wrote the title song for that Christmas album and Angel's Lullaby, a song on A Celtic Odyssey. You can listen to samples of Good Morning Christmas here. Thus, Gretchen recorded three songs for A Celtic Odyssey and all the songs on Good Morning Christmas.

So many disparate parts came together for this album, and I feel extraordinarily blessed to be a part of this project.
